Sofyan Amrabat Scouting Report - The Reds' Next Defensive Midfield Dynamo?
Is he good enough to be Liverpool's next hoover?
One of Morocco’s World Cup sensations - Sofyan Amrabat - has been widely linked with Liverpool over the course of the past few days. The 26-year-old has had a dream tournament in Qatar, and he is one of the main reasons why the north African side made history not just for themselves, but the whole of Africa.
Sofyan is the younger brother of Nordin Amrabat, who has featured in English football before while playing for Watford. Sofyan, on the other hand, is currently plying his trade for Serie A side Fiorentina.
The Dutch-born Moroccan midfielder started his youth career at Eredivisie club Utrecht before moving to Feyenoord. He then spent years at Club Brugge and Verona before becoming a Fiorentina player in January 2020. He started getting regular games from the start of 2020/21 season.
Amrabat is a defensive midfielder by trade but can also operate as a centre-back and a fullback. Below, we are taking an in-depth look at the player to find out more about him, his playing style and how he can be a good addition to the current Liverpool midfield.
Sofyan Amrabat - Introduction and Playing Style
As briefly mentioned above, Sofyan Amrabat is an out-and-out defensive midfielder who can play in other defensive positions, if need be. For his current club Fiorentina, the Morocco international has played 49 out of the 78 games in his primary position.
For Morocco during this World Cup, the 26-year-old has been used in the same position as well. The similarity between both teams is that they prefer to play with a 4-3-3 formation, hence the midfielder is easily accustomed to playing the deeper-lying midfield role for club and country.
