Scouting Report - Moisés Caicedo, Liverpool’s Next Midfield Controller?

Liverpool’s midfield has been the subject of grave criticism this season. Even manager Jürgen Klopp admitted that having another body in that department would have been great in the summer window. It is well known that the club did their best to sign Aurelien Tchouameni, but the Frenchman chose Real Madrid.

Moving on from that, the Reds have been heavily linked with Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moisés Caicedo. The 21-year-old, who was signed by the Seagulls on the last day of the 2021 winter window from Ecuadorian club Independiente, has been one of the better performers in the league this season.

M. Caicedo - Introduction and Playing Style

Moisés Caicedo is a defensive midfielder by trade who can operate on the left-hand side of the midfield three or in a two-man midfield pivot. He is more of a controller in central areas with his accurate passing, aggressive defending and good coverage of the ground with fast speed in defensive transition.

Out of the 25 appearances for Brighton, the 21-year-old has played 14 in a midfield pivot and nine as a left-sided midfielder in a three.
