There has been a barrage of links telling us that Mason Mount is likely to come to Liverpool if he does not sign a contract extension with Chelsea. At £80,000-per-week, he is one of the lowest-paid players at Stamford Bridge.
After doing well in the last 24 months, it is not rocket science that the England international is asking for wages that reflect his status in the squad. A few months ago, Reece James signed a new contract worth £250,000-per-week. On that scale, Mount deserves to be around £180,000 to £200,000-per-week, doesn't he? (Wage numbers taken from Sportac, so take with a pinch of salt.)
The 24-year-old’s current contract expires in 2024, hence Chelsea will sell him in the summer if there is no agreement reached on a new deal. Is he worth a punt for Liverpool? We take an in-depth look at the player below with the help of his numbers, profile and much more.
Mason Mount - Introduction and Player Profile
Mount is an academy product of Chelsea, who spent individual seasons on loan at Vitesse and Derby County between 2017 and 2019. He is a versatile attacking midfield player who gets used in a lot of different positions (which sometimes affects his performance).
With regard to attributes, the 24-year-old is a great technician on the ball who likes to create chances and contribute with a few goals. He is good off the ball - be it pressing high or covering the ground to close down the opposition midfield. With a ball recovery rate of over four in the league in the last two-and-a-bit seasons, he is doing performing well.
Although the Englishman has produced his best football playing as a 10, he has mentioned that the number eight position is where he sees himself operating in the coming years.
At Chelsea since the start of the 2019/20 campaign, Mount has only played 33 games out of the 192 as a central midfielder. Back in the 2017/18 season on loan at Vitesse, he played 32 of the 39 games in that position.
Mount’s versatility and In-game analysis
Because he can do a good job in a lot of positions across the attacking midfield department, Mount is guilty of being used in positions that may not suit him, just to adjust others in the starting XI.
