Alexis Mac Allister is the latest name in the transfer hat for Liverpool to potentially sign in the summer window. The Argentinian (yes, he is actually not Scottish) has had an exceptional 2022/23 season, where he has not only played well for Brighton and Hove Albion, but was a major part of his country’s success in the World Cup, including an assist in the final for Ángel Di María.

The 24-year-old signed for Brighton back in January 2019 from AA Argentinos Junior, but went back on loan till the summer of that year. In July 2019, Boca Juniors signed him on loan until January.

Since making his debut for the Seagulls during the 2020/21 season, Mac Allister has had an excellent injury record. He has missed only four games for them in almost two-and-a-half seasons. In 107 appearances in all competitions, the midfielder has scored 20 goals and assisted eight.

Without further ado, let’s take an in-depth look at the player, his profile, numbers and why Jürgen Klopp can get the best out of him at Liverpool.

Introduction and Profile - Alexis Mac Allister

Alexis Mac Allister is a versatile midfield player who can operate in multiple positions across the central regions of the field. If we look at his numbers for Brighton, the Argentinian has played 40 games as an attacking midfielder, 22 as a central midfielder, 20 as a defensive midfielder and 12 as a wide midfielder.

In the current season, the 24-year-old has predominantly either played in a midfield pivot or as a number 10 behind the striker.

With regard to attributes, the former AA Argentinos Jr. youth product is comfortable on the ball, can move it well and progress, exhibits an excellent work rate, can do the box-to-box running required of a central midfielder and is a threat in and around the opposition box with goals and assists. Lastly, he takes penalties with aplomb. Has a conversion rate of 100% with six penalties in the league this season.
