Mats Wieffer - Are the Reds Looking at Left-Field Options to Avoid Overpaying?
In the past few days, there have been reports linking Feyenoord midfielder Mats Wieffer with Liverpool. It is not hard to think why a plethora of players of that position are getting linked with the Reds. Wieffer just happens to be another one on the list.
By signing Wataru Endo last week, Liverpool and Jürgen Klopp showed us that they are willing to go out of their way to find left-field solutions to problems. Although getting the Japan captain does not close the chapter of this midfield rebuild, it covers a significant portion of it if you hear what Klopp has had to say about the 30-year-old.
Wieffer sounds like another out-of-the-box name to me. The 23-year-old started his career as a FC Twente youth player in 2015 before moving to Excelsior in 2020. He signed for Feyenoord last summer and became a part of the team that lifted the Eredivisie for the 16th time in the club's history.

Mats Wieffer - Player Profile
Mats Wieffer is a multi-position midfielder who can play in a double pivot and as a number eight or a solo number six in a three-man setup. If we look back at his career, the Dutchman has played 18 games as a centre-back. But, most of those appearances there came before he started playing senior level football.
