Is Tyler Morton A Genuine Option For Liverpool Next Season?
Analysing the youngster's progress in the Championship for Blackburn
Seeing him play a few games for the Liverpool senior team last season, it was evident that Tyler Morton could do with a full season on loan to a club where he plays most of the games. He found that club in the shape of Blackburn Rovers last summer.
The 20-year-old has made 31 appearances in all competitions for the Championship side (27 in the league). He has amassed a total of 2299 minutes on the field so far, which is just 467 shy of what he managed throughout the whole of the previous season (combining his minutes for the Liverpool senior and youth sides).
By trade, Morton is a defensive midfielder who is comfortable playing as a number eight or as a centre-back if required. He is just over 6 foot in height and has a good balance to his game overall. He has taken his chances at Blackburn with aplomb, becoming one of their key players this season. Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side are sixth in the league and have every chance to finish in the playoff places.
Below, we take an in-depth look at what Morton has produced this season with the help of numbers and in-game images. We will also take a glance at his profile as a player and whether he could help the Liverpool midfield next season onward.
Morton Championship Numbers Ranked - 2022/23 Season
This section will have Morton’s numbers in the league this season, ranked amongst the CM/DMs in the division. The condition being a player has played a minimum of 900 minutes to be included in the table for sample size purposes.
Positionally, the 20-year-old has played most of the games for Blackburn in a double-pivot midfield, irrespective of whether there are three centre-backs behind him or two. He has played a game as a centre-back as well.
Considering that this is his first season where he is playing senior level football consistently, those are more than decent numbers.
