Giorgio Scalvini Scouting Report - Possible Joël Matip Successor?
Share

With reports from local journalists claiming that Liverpool would be looking to cash in on Joël Matip in the summer, it is time for us to look at the centre-backs who can ably succeed the work done by the former Cameroon international. Mind you, it won’t be easy because despite the injury issues, the 31-year-old has been one of the best players for the Reds in the last six years.

Matip’s contract expires in the summer of 2024. Hence, if the club isn’t interested in offering the former Schalke man a new deal, it is better to sell him in the coming summer, rather than losing him for free after that.

In terms of successors, young Italian centre-back - Giorgio Scalvini - comes to mind. The 19-year-old was linked with Liverpool during the January window by a couple of Italian newspapers.

Scalvini is a talented young defender who was an academy product at Atalanta before graduating to debut for their senior side last season. He has made 40 appearances for them since making his debut at this level in October 2021.

The Italian has represented the national team from the U-15’s until the senior level. He is a centre-back who can operate as a defensive midfielder.

Before any further ado, let’s jump into the details of the player and get to know about him with the help of numbers, in-game screen grabs, comparisons and more.

Introduction and Player Profile - Giorgio Scalvini

Giorgio Scalvini is an elegant and technically strong right-footed centre-back who ticks most of the boxes to succeed in the modern game. He is good on the ball, does not mind stepping into midfield with it, reads and intercepts opposition attacks and is good in physical duels.
